Blueprint Boulevard: Local Leaders Weigh In

Local leaders weighed in on the future of Littleton Boulevard at the Blueprint Boulevard Urban Design Charette July 27-29, helping outline a vision for the future of a key Littleton corridor.

A charette is an intense period of design or planning activity. More than 20 attendees participated, including members of the Blueprint Boulevard Stakeholder Working Group, members of Littleton City Council, and the Blueprint Boulevard project team.

The charette focused on major elements of the planning effort, including housing, historic preservation, economic development, the public realm, and mobility.

Here are some of the values that emerged from the charette:

  • Safety: pedestrian-focused with a focus on physical safety.
  • Comfort: better bike, trail, and pedestrian connections; activated parcels through infill development, plazas, and green space.
  • Historic character: finding adaptive re-use opportunities and matching preferred architectural styles.
  • Local businesses: a focus on mixed-use development and well-curated branding and wayfinding.
  • Active destinations: gateways, more civic spaces, and re-imagining large surface parking lots and underutilized parcels.

Participants also collaborated on a draft vision statement for Blueprint Boulevard: “Littleton Boulevard and the surrounding neighborhoods should be a comfortable, people-first place, that sparks exciting destinations with safe connections, while preserving historic character and local communities.”

The findings represent a first effort by the Blueprint Boulevard team to synthesize feedback received so far from the public, local leaders, and city officials.

As always, Littleton’s character is protected by community participation. Outreach and public engagement on the plan will be ongoing, including an upcoming open house planned for October. The Blueprint Boulevard team will also be on hand to answer questions and receive feedback at the Meet Greet & Eat event at Southbridge Park August 19.
